It's finished! I finally completed and wrote up the results of my red-over-yellow tattoo experiment. Mike was the very last person I tattooed in the first Logan Square Butterfat, 9 years ago. We closed up for good, and I went on the road right after he left. We did this Redoute rose in one shot, with full color flower head and green tinted grey washes in the leaves. He likes his collection to look sharp and well kept, and he was ready to refresh it✨ Swipe through to see how it looked when he came in, before the refresh with warmer green washes and a freshly recolored flower. Last slide is the day we first did it, with a limited and somber color scheme. I really enjoy that Mike sees his collection as a changeable and living- he takes care of it, and prunes and polishes. Tattoos are in no way permanent, they age and change as we age and change, and they can be tweaked, redone (especially if you start light with fine or no outlines, if you start heavy there’s less room to adjust- those lines age by getting wider, not lighter), or even removed. When I first started, there were far fewer styles and far fewer tricks to adjust and play with- it’s a pretty great time to be into tattooing, if you are adventurous 🌿🌿🌿

This neutral lavender on Shakira✨✨ carefully chosen to heal to this gentle color in harmony with her skin- a light grey wash would have worked too, but we wanted something more luminous and soft. I love a tattoo that walks the line between tough and beautiful- and I’m so pleased with this particular balance.
