Be still my beating heart, this dream project has come to an end. When Taryn asked me to tattoo her sleeve, she basically gave me free rein; saying she loved the idea of combining Japanese tattoo style with PNW subject matter (WHICH IS MY FAVORITE 😍). When we sat down at her consultation to figure out specifics she told me about Fishers (aka: fisher cat, Pekania pennanti) , which I had never heard of, and how they used to live on the Olympic peninsula but had been pretty much wiped out by the early 20th century due to over-trapping and how there had been a program of reintroduction several years ago. I was like that's it! That's what we're going to build the sleeve around! 🤩
Highlighting native species and ecosystems of the pacific northwest in tattoo form is my passion and my small way of giving back to the environment that I love. It means a lot to me whenever I get to do this.
Fun fact and amazing coincidence: @bryankachel 's brother WAS THERE for the reintroduction of the first fisher into the Olympic National Park in 2008!!! Can you believe it?! So cool. I can't say enough good things about Taryn as a client and as a person. She undertook this project while going back to school and stuck with it even when she was tired and probably just wanted to go home and sleep. People who are willing to give me this level of artistic freedom, who I genuinely vibe with creatively, who show up for their appointments and stick it out are so precious to me. I am so so grateful.
